Building Public-Data Servers for AI Agents

Client
Year
2026

Project Summary

AI agents are only as useful as what they can see. I built MCP servers that give agents read-only access to public data in Western New York: city and county parcels, owners, zoning, permits and violations; state corporate records, environmental flags and demographics; and state legislation, federal contracts, awards and grants. Each one is hosted as a remote connector and packaged to run locally in Claude Desktop.

01
Phase One

Buffalo GIS

A read-only server over City of Buffalo and Erie County GIS and OpenData Buffalo. Give an agent an address and it can pull the parcel, the owner, the zoning, and the property's violations and permits. I extended it with New York State corporate entity lookup, DEC environmental flags, and Census and HUD demographics, so one question can cover who owns a property, what's wrong with it, and who lives around it.

Retro sci-fi illustration of a library of glowing city maps.
02
Phase Two

NY Gov Intel

A second server built for government relations work. It searches New York State bills and laws through Open Legislation, federal contract opportunities on SAM.gov, federal awards through USAspending, and grant opportunities on Grants.gov, with every search defaulting to New York.

An android hands a sealed scroll to a government relations advisor in a capitol archive.
03
Phase Three

Meeting intelligence

For Nupixl I built a communication layer from three connected services: an MCP server, a REST API on Cloudflare Workers, and a voice transcription service on Fly.io. Conversations become something an agent can search and act on.

Spoken words in a meeting become golden ribbons an android winds onto spools.
04
Phase Four

Read-only by design

Every server can research but never change a public record. Each ships two ways: hosted on Vercel as a remote connector, and packaged as a desktop bundle for Claude Desktop, so it works whether you're in the cloud or on your own machine.

An android reads a record book sealed in a glass case, its quill left outside.
